2022 AFL Betting Tips – Round 3

AFL Buddy 1000th goal

It was another tough AFL betting week last week for Round 2 as the teams work out their pecking order and deal with Covid isolations. Squad management is going play a big part in the AFL this season.

Round 3 kicks off with the match of the round as the Bulldogs take on Sydney. Two teams right in the hunt for the premiership this season. It will be a true test for the Swans to see if they are ready to make that leap and win away from home. Now that the Buddy 1000th goal hysteria is out of the way, they can focus on moving forwards. Their young midweek is getting the job done, their back line is solid, and Isaac Heeney is running rampant up forward.

A loss here for the Dogs and they will be sitting 0-3 and their season in the balance. A tough loss to Melbourne was followed by a surprise defeat by the Blues. They have the man power on paper to compete with anyone but their defence can get exposed against good forward lines as we saw last week. Who is going to stop Buddy and Heeney? If they get enough of the ball, then they might get over the Dogs.

The rest of the round looks a bit more straight forward from an AFL tips perspective with a number of one-sided games. The Showdown on Friday night in Adelaide is always interesting, but I expect Port to bounce back and get themselves off the bottom of the ladder.

The other close game of the round from a betting perspective is Richmond against St.Kilda which the bookies have as a coin flip. The Saints did well to win against Freo away from home, but I’m not convince Fremantle are travelling that well at the moment with no Cerra, Fyfe or Mundy in the middle, no Taberner up forward and Darcy injuring himself in the ruck early in the game. They are massive holes. Besides a burst of magic from Max King and some good work from Jack Higgins, there are plenty of passengers on the Saints train.

Compare that to the win of Richmond which was typically efficient. GWS had more of the ball but the Tigers were in complete control of that game and look to be getting back to the Tigers of old. Richmond to win looks like a great bet.

Fremantle should also win against West Coast in the Western Derby to finish the round, but there’s no betting markets available until the final lineups are confirmed. West Coast were ravaged last week with Covid isolations, but even if those players are available this week, you’d think that the disruptions alone would make it hard for them to get up here, even against Freo.
