2022 AFL Betting Tips – Round 1

AFL Melbourne Bulldogs

Footy is back! And so are our AFL betting tips for 2022.

The 2022 AFL season kicks off this Wednesday night in classic fashion with an AFL Grand Final rematch between Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs that should see 90,000 people fill the MCG! It’s been a long time since the Melbourne fans have been this excited about going to the footy!

Both teams will again be contenders in 2022, with both teams looking strong on paper. Luke Dunstan adds some midfield depth for the Dees, while Tim O’Brien is the tall swing man that the Dogs needed.

It’s a tough game to call but the Dogs look a touch of value at the $2.34 price with GF revenge on their minds!

It might be a round where it’s better to take the value in the underdogs, as obviously it’s a new season and anything is possible in Round 1.

A rejuvinated Carlton should be able to compete with Richmond on Thursday night, and there’s probably also some value in their $2.84 price. Adam Cerra is a big in and Patrick Cripps looks back to his best. When Sam Walsh returns from injury, then the Blues will be in great shape to make an impact this season.

Gold Coast might also be able to cause an upset in Perth on Sunday evening. West Coast have had a horrible pre-season, with several key injuries, problems with Covid vaccinations and isolations, and holes in their lineup all over the park leaving them with just 26 players to choose from this week. Gold Coast are also a bit of a rabble of a club, but they don’t mind starting the season fast, so you could entertain them at $2.43.

Best favourite of the round looks to be Brisbane at $1.54. The Lions are purring this season and although the Power will probably also be a contender in 2022, they haven’t looked great in the pre-season. The Lions have Lachie Neale back to his best and if Cam Rayner is fit in the midfield, then they have a great dynamic on the ball that will be tough to stop.
