It’s crazy times for many states in Australia, and the AFL are doing their best to navigate through the waves of Covid outbreaks in order to continue and complete the AFL season. Fixtures are in limbo but we’re hoping the season can continue without further distruption as we look forward to our Round 19 betting tips.
It was a more succesful week in Round 18 where both of our betting tips landed, and our best bet was never in doubt. We also went 7 winners and a draw from our 9 tips for the round – which was much more please results.
Round 19 doesn’t look the easiest round for AFL betting. The round kicks off on Friday night with the Power hosting the Pies, and although the “prison bar battle” is always spicy, the -29.5 line for the Power isn’t one we want to get involved with.
Our first bet will come on Saturday afternoon where the Blues will battle with the Kangaroos. The Blues still have a slim hope for finals, but their form is unconvincing.
Sam Walsh has been enormous and Harry McKay has kicked a bag of goals – they might win the Brownlow and Coleman Medals between them! However take them out and there’s plenty of holes in that line up. Patrick Cripps is struggling through injury and their backline looks brittle.
They’ll look at this game as a must-win game, but it won’t be easy against the Kangas.
North Melbourne should regain Ben Cunnington for the Melbourne-based game, while Jed Anderson and Jared Polec are on the verge of returning to the side. That’s some quality right there. Their forwards of Cam Zurhaar and Nick Larkey are working well, and Aaron Hall was a running beast in their narrow loss to the Bombers last week.
The line is -6.5 in favourite of the Blues, and I’m happy to side with the underdogs here in North. They are paying $2.24 to win but we’ll take the +6.5 and back them to be right in it until the finish.
The battle for top spot between Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs should be fantastic on Saturday night, while Geelong and Richmond on Sunday will be crucial for the Tigers’ finals hopes.
Our second betting play for the round will be for the Swans to easily account for Fremantle. The Swans are now being talked amongst the premiership contenders after a hard-fought win over the Giants last week. Luke Parker and Josh Kennedy are being supported by some quality young players, and with Lance Franklin on the verge of 1,000 career goals, the Swans are looking good.
Meanwhile Freo were terrible last week. Sure, it was a tough ask against the Cats, but they didn’t even give a whimper. With Sean Darcy copping an injury to his knee, he must be in some doubt for this match, which leaves their young midfield exposed. With Rory Lobb also going down with injury and Matt Taberner still on the sidelines, it’s hard to see how Freo can compete in the air and kick a winning score. Take the Swans at the -22.5 line.
